 Friends’ Central School’s Julia Bascomb is Main Line Student of the Week (March 17-23) To read the article on Julia Bascomb click here A junior at Friends’ Central, Julia Bascomb helped to found Earthquakers, the school’s FIRST Robotics competition team (FIRST is an international high school robotics competition – for more information visit www.firstinspires.org). She is currently a mechanical team leader who uses her knowledge of engineering design to help construct mechanisms for this year’s robot. Bascomb has played a key role in the Earthquakers qualifying for the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship for the past two seasons. She also is leader of the school’s Cookie and Crafts club, and is a varsity field hockey player for the Phoenix.

 The Baldwin School’s Emi Maeda is Main Line Student of the Week (March 10-16) To read the article on Emi Maeda click here A senior at The Baldwin School, Emi Maeda is a current Montgomery County Youth Poet Laureate, partnering with libraries and non-profits to promote poetry, mental health and voter engagement, and planning public poetry events. A published poet, she has performed at the West Park Arts Festival and Wawa Welcome America and is a National YoungArts winner in poetry. She is co-head of Baldwin School’s Asian Student Association, and planned an all-school Asian Cultural Night for Baldwin’s student and parent community to celebrate culture/diversity with food, performances, activities, and games, with more than 400 guests raising $4,000 for charity.  Academy of Notre Dame’s Chloe Calvert is Main Line Student of the Week (March 3-9) To read the article on Chloe Calvert click here A senior at Academy of Notre Dame, Chloe Calvert is President of Student Council, co-president of the Spanish Club, a Global Citizen Scholar, a member of the Honor Corps, a Student Ambassador, and a member of the National Honor Society. She received honorable mention for her performance on the National Spanish Exam. She participates in many volunteer activities, including a student trip to New Orleans to help preserve the wetlands, and working with children with disabilities to learn to ride a two-wheel bike.

Episcopal Academy’s Kailin Gao is Main Line Student of the Week (Feb. 24 – March 2)

 Episcopal Academy’s Kailin Gao is Main Line Student of the Week (Feb. 24 – March 2) To read the article on Kailin Gao click here Kailin Gao, a senior at Episcopal Academy, is an accomplished musician, dancer and student at EA. She plays first flute in the Concert Band and Jazz Ensemble where she also serves as a Student Conductor. Gao earned the Brown University Book Award during EA’s fall awards event. She was a fall inductee in the Cum Laude Society and is a Silver and Gold Key Scholastic Art and Writing medalist. She won fourth place in the National History Day State Round competition for her work analyzing Andy Warhol’s Pop Art and its impact to American culture/consumerism and Balanchine’s impact on American ballet. She was Winner/Finalist in the Youth American Grand Prix which is an international dance competition. She is also the founder of Steps to Ballet. Gao volunteers with the HuaXia Chinese School and is the president of EA’s Mandarin Club.

 Haverford School’s Gabe Baker is Main Line Student of the Week (Feb. 17-23) To read the article on Gabe Baker click here A senior at The Haverford School, Gabe Baker is a member of the school’s Signet Society, Honor Council, Black Student Union and Ethics Club. He was a Senior Leader for the Third Form Trip, an overnight trip with the third formers (freshmen) to Camp Saginaw to help integrate them into the high school community. Baker is a Tour Guide at Haverford, was the varsity soccer team’s manager, and is a four-year basketball player for the Fords whose sister Amaris Baker plays Division I basketball at Drexel University.

 Merion Mercy Academy’s Abby Habteslase is Main Line Student of the Week (Feb. 10-16) To read the article on Abby Habteslase click here A senior at Merion Mercy, Abby Habteslase is a leader of the school’s Conservative Women and Freethinkers Club, Blue Key Society and Women for Life and Love. She also is a member of the National Honor Society, Mercy Mission Corps, Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society and the school’s yearbook staff. Outside of Merion Mercy, she works as a volunteer at Pennsylvania Hospital and serves as a Bible study leader at her home parish.

 Friends’ Central School’s Kareena Mathur is Main Line Student of the Week (Feb. 3-9) To read the article on Kareena Mathur click here A junior at Friends’ Central, Kareena Mathur is the leader of the school’s Asian Student Association, which provides assemblies and activities including an annual Pan-Asian Conference for local schools. She is a Peer Mentor, one of a select group of 11th grade students who provide support and guidance to 9th grade students in their transition to the Upper School and during their first year, and is noted for her outstanding empathy and thoughtfulness in that role. As a Phoenix Ambassador, Mathur regularly assists in the Friends’ Central admissions office, providing tours to prospective students and volunteering at admissions events. She plays squash for Friends’ Central, manages the school’s Varsity field hockey team, and is a dancer and dance teacher.
