A junior at Friends’ Central, Julia Bascomb helped to found Earthquakers, the school’s FIRST Robotics competition team (FIRST is an international high school robotics competition – for more information visit www.firstinspires.org). She is currently a mechanical team leader who uses her knowledge of engineering design to help construct mechanisms for this year’s robot. Bascomb has played a key role in the Earthquakers qualifying for the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship for the past two seasons. She also is leader of the school’s Cookie and Crafts club, and is a varsity field hockey player for the Phoenix.

 Valley Forge Military Academy’s Nicholas Wu is Main Line Student of the Week (May 20-26) To read the article on Nicholas Wu click here A sophomore at VFMA, Nicholas Wu has been awarded the Harvey Medal in the subjects of Science, English, and French; was awarded the Major General Anthony Wayne medal for being the 8th grade valedictorian; and was awarded the Dean’s Medal two years in a row for achieving Gold Star Honor Roll status every marking period in a school year. He is a member of Valley Forge Military Academy’s National Honor Society and Hi-Q team, and made his VFMA Theatre debut this spring as Mr. Mushnick in Little Shop of Horrors. Wu is also a member of the school’s Community Service Club, Rifle Club, Drill Team, varsity soccer squad and varsity swimming team.

 Villa Maria Academy’s Dani Strid is Main Line Student of the Week (Jan. 27-Feb. 3) To read the article on Dani Strid click here A senior at Villa Maria Academy, Dani Strid is Executive Editor-in-Chief of the school’s newspaper, Villa Voice; is President of French Club and French Honor Society; and participates in the school’s Mission and Ministry Club as well as its Student Integrity Committee. She is a member of the National Honor Society and is President of the Quill and Scroll International Honor Society. Strid is a participant in the Youth Leadership Program as a part of the Chester County Chamber of Commerce, and is co-captain of the Villa Maria paddle tennis team.
