Villa Maria Academy's Millie Slifer is Main Line Student of the week - May 26, 2019 To read the article on Millie Slifer click here A junior, Slifer is president of Villa Maria’s String Ensemble, an audition-only group selected from 10- to 12th-graders in the Villa Maria Orchestra, for which she plays violin. Slifer recently was named president of the Villa Maria Orchestra and Tri-M Music Honor Society for the 2019-20 school year. She plays first violin in Villa Maria’s Orchestra and All Catholic Orchestra (an audition-only orchestra) and was principal second violinist in Penn Youths Orchestra. Last year, as a member of Villa Maria’s String Ensemble, she was part of a group that won its section and was awarded Superior level. Slifer and her duet partner, harpist Millena Chirillo, earned an award in the Grand Prix level at the Music-Fest Rising Talents Festival, and they performed at Columbia University May 11. Agnes Irwin School's Sarah Gruber is Main Line Student of the Week - May 19, 2019 To read the article on Sarah Gruber click here A senior, Gruber took Computer Science II last year and as a capstone project, created a custom app to advertise service opportunities and track student service hours (a set number of service hours are an AIS graduation requirement). Gruber has co-headed the Worlds Affairs Council, based in Philadelphia and similar to the Model United Nations program, in both 11th and 12th grade. Gruber serves on the executive board of the Council for the Advancement of Girls, the student-led branch of AIS’s Center for the Advancement of Girls; is a member of Agnes Irwin’s Jewish Student Union; co-leads Agnes Irwin’s service board; and contributes to Frenish, Agnes Irwin’s student-run Spanish and French language publication.

Holy Child School of Rosemont's Anna Carroll is Main Line Student of the Week - May 12, 2019 To read the article on Anna Carroll click here An eighth-grader at Holy Child School at Rosemont, Anna Carroll is an active member of the art community, participating in the Handbell Choir, the Laudamus Middle School Choir, the school’s Liturgical Musician group as a pianist (playing at prayer services and masses), and a member of the school’s Spring Musical. She is also a Student Ambassador (gives tours to prospective parents), a member of the Middle School Tech Squad, and a Johns Hopkins High CTY High Honor Recipient.

Episcopal Academy's Noble Brigham is Main Line Student of the Week - May 5, 2019 To read the article on Noble Brigham click here Noble Brigham, a junior at EA, is an accomplished student with a passion for archival research and work. Last summer, he spent several weeks in Scotland working as an auction house intern. He has conducted extensive work in EA’s vast archives and recently helped on a book about the history of squash at EA. He also volunteers as an historian at his church in Overbrook, and served in the same capacity for Lower Merion Township for two years. Along with his archival work, Brigham is involved with EA’s community outreach board - which includes weekly tutoring sessions at ACLAMO, which is an afterschool program and social agency for Latino families and children in Norristown, twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays in which the volunteers work with the elementary school students, helping them through their math, spelling, and reading homework.

Merion Mercy Academy's Madison Boylan is Main Line Student of the Week - April 28, 2019 To read the article on Madison Boylan click here The Temple University-bound senior is president of the school’s Science National Honor Society, co-leader of MMA’s Mental Health Awareness Affinity Group and a member of the school’s Math Honor Society (Mu Alpha Theta) and Spanish Honor Society. A National Merit Commended Student, Boylan had the highest GPA in the Merion Mercy Class of 2019 during the 2017-18 school year. She is a Diocesan Scholar, captain of MMA’s varsity softball team and a member of Merion Mercy’s Mercy Works, Community Service Corps and History Club. She works at Sisters of Mercy Convent, Waldron Mercy Academy and Haverford Township Recreation. She is currently taking a course at Saint Joseph’s University called Math of Uncertainty.

Agnes Irwin's Katie McGovern is Main Line Student of the Week - April 21, 2019 To read the article on Katie McGovern click here A senior, Katie McGovern was selected for the NFHCA High School Academic Squad. She took on an Independent Science Research project with AIS science chair last year that analyzed the optical properties of chalcogenide glass and how it is affected by heat treating. One of her goals for the future is to make prosthetics for people with mobility issues. She is the only three-year-running winner of AIS’s poetry prize in history and is the peer-elected class representative to the AIS Arts Board, as well as co-leader for Impulse, the AIS arts magazine. McGovern also is co-head of the Council for the Advancement of Girls, the student offshoot of AIS’s Center for the Advancement of Girls.

Villa Maria Academy's Ariana Kei Arrojado is Main Line Student of the Week - April 14, 2019 To read the article on Ariana Kei Arrojado click here A senior at Villa Maria Academy, Arrojado is a member of the National Honor Society, the Math Honors Society and the French Honors Society. She is co-president of the Tech Club, secretary of the French Club, vice president of Marian Masques, homeroom representative for Mission and Ministry and a member of the Music Ministry leadership team. She received honorable mention in the Grand Concours, National French Contest the last two years, received the George Washington Book Prize last June and won the Congressional App Challenge in the fall of 2016. She is learning the Korean language and regularly meets with a Korean tutor.

Sacred Heart's Carina Fichera is Main Line Student of the Week - April 7, 2019 To read the article on Carina Fichera click here A junior at Sacred Heart Academy, Carina Fichera was recently selected to receive the Widener University High School Leadership Award. As a recipient, she will receive a $20,000 scholarship to Widener University over four years and will be named an Apogee Scholar should she enroll at Widener and participate in the Oskin Leadership Institute after her graduation from SHA. Fichera is the vice president of the junior class and a student ambassador with the admissions office at Sacred Heart Academy. She takes Advanced Placement and honors courses at Sacred Heart Academy, is a member of the school newspaper, the SHA Community Service Club and played on the District 1 2A basketball team this winter. Malvern Prep's Billy Carlini is Main Line Student of the Week - March 31, 2019 To read the article on Billy Carlini click here Billy Carlini, a senior, is student body president, a member of the Adelphia Society, a MECO (Malvernians Experiencing Christ in Others) leader and a youth lacrosse coach. A two-sport athlete (football and lacrosse), he has attended Malvern Prep since his freshman year. In the fall, he will attend College of the Holy Cross, where he plans to major in economics. He also will play lacrosse for the Crusaders.
