A senior at The Grayson School, Rena Civan is a National Merit Scholar semifinalist, and is the recipient of The Grayson School Engineering Award for her intricate and innovative projects, and resilience through failure for her work in designing and developing a pop-up book and functional prototypes for natural ink markers. In her freshman year, Civan was a finalist in the 13-14 category of the Desmos 2021 Global Math Art Contest for an animation of ducks migrating with the seasons created exclusively in the 2D graphing calculator tool. Since then, she has also created a playable Flappy Bird style game with the same duck character. She is a VEX Robotics team captain and mentors at Middle School VEX Team. Her technical and creative skills have made a mark in Costume Design for four Grayson School stage productions and her passion for fiber arts extends to her free time through a variety of sewing and crocheting projects. Civan also mentors younger students through Grayson’s Gryphon and Grifflings program, and volunteers at Paws and Affection, a non-profit based in Narberth that trains service dogs.
