A junior at Friends’ Central, Rita Tang is from Chengdu, China. Tang was one of two FCS Upper School students who recently qualified to take the American Invitational Math Exam (AIME) based on their performance on the American Math Contest-12, a three-hour test that will determine the nationwide ranking of the two students. She is currently working on a science project involving DNA barcoding of native bees on Friends’ Central’s City Avenue campus and wild bees from Maine. Most recently, she has identified (together with FCS sophomore Yaya Guo) two longhorn bees, and her DNA sequences have been included in the International Barcode of Life (BOLD) database as reference sequences. Her efforts are helping Friends’ Central to have a clearer understanding of which bee and moth species are present on their campus and which species can be found at the field station in Maine where Friends’ Central students and science faculty conduct summer research. Tang also is a participant in Model United Nations and the School’s Science Core Team.

 Valley Forge Military Academy’s Nicholas Wu is Main Line Student of the Week (May 20-26) To read the article on Nicholas Wu click here A sophomore at VFMA, Nicholas Wu has been awarded the Harvey Medal in the subjects of Science, English, and French; was awarded the Major General Anthony Wayne medal for being the 8th grade valedictorian; and was awarded the Dean’s Medal two years in a row for achieving Gold Star Honor Roll status every marking period in a school year. He is a member of Valley Forge Military Academy’s National Honor Society and Hi-Q team, and made his VFMA Theatre debut this spring as Mr. Mushnick in Little Shop of Horrors. Wu is also a member of the school’s Community Service Club, Rifle Club, Drill Team, varsity soccer squad and varsity swimming team.

 Haverford School’s Conor McDonald is Main Line Student of the Week (Dec. 30 – Jan. 5) To read the article on Conor McDonald click here A senior at The Haverford School, Conor McDonald is president of the VEX Robotics Club, which captured the 2024 Eastern PA state championship. He is also a member of the Signet Society and Model UN, as well as the Math Club President and the President and founder of the Quiz Bowl Club. A Commended National Merit Scholar, McDonald participates in the Academic Mentorship Program, mentoring 6th graders at Haverford School. He also plays varsity soccer for Haverford School (is the starting midfielder), and is an Eagle Scout and Senior Patrol Leader (the highest leadership position) of his Boy Scout troop.
