Wren LaFiandra, a senior at The Grayson School, is a member of Delta Epsilon Phi, a national honor society for students of German. LaFiandra completed two years of German language study in one year and is currently writing a German-language comparative essay discussing the implications of ideas found in Schiller’s first nine aesthetic letters and Kant’s essays on enlightenment. LaFiandra is leader of the Woods Team for the spring 2023 musical production of Into the Woods, designing and constructing sets, delegating tasks to team members, ordering parts, and directing cues for stage right; and leader of the Rue Plumet Gate stage crew for the spring 2022 musical production of Les Misérables directing cues and set changes. LaFiandra is a 2023-24 school year competitive VEX Robotics team organizer, and designed and developed a character maquette to be used in a stop-motion animation film that has an innovative magnetic mechanism allowing for fast and efficient changes of character facial expressions between frames. Two of LaFiandra’s watercolor paintings were published in the Fall/Winter 2022 issue of the Grayson Literary and Art Magazine. LaFiandra created an orientation program for Grayson students new to international travel based on Wren’s personal experience participating in the 2023 learning excursion to London and Paris. LaFiandra created synthetic opals in the science lab, confirming their creation through spectroscopy, and presenting the lab work and findings to engage and inspire Middle School students in building their own research portfolios.
