Academy of Notre Dame's Lindsay McBride is Main Line Student of the Week (Sept. 19-25)

 

Lindsay McBride, a senior at the Academy of Notre Dame, is a National Merit Semifinalist, and was one of just three United States students to be named the winner of the 2022 Maurice R. Hilleman Essay Contest. She also created a crossword puzzle that the New York Times purchased. Last May, she won first place at an independent research competition of the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of the Sciences at Penn State. Lindsay is a Diocesan Scholar (taking two college courses), is on the Leadership Board of the Environmental Club, is Co-President of the Mandarin Club, is a Grade Representative of the Global Leadership Student Board and plays varsity field hockey at Notre Dame. She is a STEM Scholar, a Germination Project Fellow, a Research Student at the University of Pennsylvania in the Teen Research & Education in Environmental Sciences Program, was a Research Assistant at MIT, Plata Lab (where she led a team of three MIT undergraduates), a voter registration volunteer in the New Pennsylvania Project, a Mary Gay Scanlon Congressional Youth Cabinet Member, and a participant in the LMLL Challenger Baseball Program. Here are some of the essay contests that she has won or placed highly in: Genome Medical, PEN America Essay Contest, SYTA World Is a Classroom Essay, NASA Power to Explore Contest, Delaware County Young Poets.

Villa Maria Academy's Anna Rago is Main Line Student of the Week - Oct. 7, 2018 To read the article on Anna Rago click here The Villa Maria Academy junior received Outstanding Achievement Awards in both science and math (algebra) and was recently nominated for the Liberty Museum and TD Bank’s Young Heroes Award. In college, she wants to study urban planning and nonprofit management with a focus on international urban planning and has taken an online class with a college in Singapore called Future Cities. Last summer, she traveled to Malawi, Africa (the third-poorest country in the world), for 18 days to work with Pamoza International, whose mission is to unite people in alleviating suffering and despair through Christian outreach and sustainable community development in the areas of education, entrepreneurship, agriculture and health. Rago has organized several fundraisers at Villa Maria for Pamoza International.

 Agnes Irwin's Caroline "Cookie" Quirk is Main Line Student of the Week (Nov. 6-12) To read the article on Cookie Quirk click here     A senior at Agnes Irwin School, Caroline “Cookie” Quirk is a National Merit Commended Scholar, and recently published an article in the Princeton Legal Journal titled “The High Stakes of Deepfakes: The Growing Necessity of Federal Legislation to Regulate this Rapidly Evolving Technology.” Quirk also serves on the school’s Discipline Committee, is a Student Tour Guide, and serves as a co-head of Mathletes as well as the Debate Club and the STEM Club. She is a writing center tutor, a member of Honor Council, and Digital Editor of the Wick, the school newspaper. She plays for Agnes Irwin’s squash team in the winter and rows crew in the spring.
