A senior at Agnes Irwin, Gold Mehl co-heads PALS, AIS’s peer mentoring program, serves as a tour guide and is an active participant in the school’s Team Joy program. Outside of school, Mehl sits on the Advisory Board of The Starfish Project, a local program that provides community service opportunities to children (and she co-led the associated school club). Having participated in the Special Olympics for three years, she has also worked at a summer camp for behaviorally challenged children. Last year, Mehl joined the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Student of the Year Campaign, during which she and her team raised $25,000 for cancer research. She was the Agnes Irwin faculty’s selected recipient of last year’s Bradford Fogarty Award, which is given “to that student whose selfless interest and untiring effort on behalf of others reflects the same unselfish spirit that Bradford exhibited during her high school years.” She plays volleyball for Agnes Irwin, and was named Most Valuable Player of the Inter-Ac league for girls’ volleyball this fall, and she organizes the team’s annual breast cancer awareness event (Dig Pink).
