A senior, Tina Ying is captain of EA’s Dance Team and a member of the school’s Improv Club. She danced in a lead role (Dew Drop Fairy) in the Rock School’s production of the Nutcracker. She has been a featured dancer in EA’s productions of Les Miserables, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Grease. She has also trained with The Pennsylvania Ballet and the Boston Ballet Summer Dance Program. “Tina has a global perspective about what it takes to achieve her goals,” said EA Dance Team coach Cara Lavallee. “Some students will only take advantage of our school offerings that fall within their wheelhouse and are convenient in their schedules. Tina realizes that studying theater and music will only enhance her dance ability. The first word I used to describe her above was kind, because she is ‘that’ kid you want in your classroom. She makes everything better because she naturally models professionalism for others, takes criticism very well and she loves learning.” Ying’s math teacher added, “Tina is a model student, asks great questions, and is always a strong performer. She has consistently demonstrated an exceptional work ethic, positive attitude and curiosity about learning, and has become a reliable presence in class. Tina can thrive in any learning environment; more importantly, Tina’s presence encourages those around her to succeed.”

Villa Maria Academy's Anna Rago is Main Line Student of the Week - Oct. 7, 2018 To read the article on Anna Rago click here The Villa Maria Academy junior received Outstanding Achievement Awards in both science and math (algebra) and was recently nominated for the Liberty Museum and TD Bank’s Young Heroes Award. In college, she wants to study urban planning and nonprofit management with a focus on international urban planning and has taken an online class with a college in Singapore called Future Cities. Last summer, she traveled to Malawi, Africa (the third-poorest country in the world), for 18 days to work with Pamoza International, whose mission is to unite people in alleviating suffering and despair through Christian outreach and sustainable community development in the areas of education, entrepreneurship, agriculture and health. Rago has organized several fundraisers at Villa Maria for Pamoza International.

 Agnes Irwin's Caroline "Cookie" Quirk is Main Line Student of the Week (Nov. 6-12) To read the article on Cookie Quirk click here     A senior at Agnes Irwin School, Caroline “Cookie” Quirk is a National Merit Commended Scholar, and recently published an article in the Princeton Legal Journal titled “The High Stakes of Deepfakes: The Growing Necessity of Federal Legislation to Regulate this Rapidly Evolving Technology.” Quirk also serves on the school’s Discipline Committee, is a Student Tour Guide, and serves as a co-head of Mathletes as well as the Debate Club and the STEM Club. She is a writing center tutor, a member of Honor Council, and Digital Editor of the Wick, the school newspaper. She plays for Agnes Irwin’s squash team in the winter and rows crew in the spring.
