Villa Maria Academy's Millie Slifer is Main Line Student of the week - May 26, 2019

A junior, Slifer is president of Villa Maria’s String Ensemble, an audition-only group selected from 10- to 12th-graders in the Villa Maria Orchestra, for which she plays violin. Slifer recently was named president of the Villa Maria Orchestra and Tri-M Music Honor Society for the 2019-20 school year. She plays first violin in Villa Maria’s Orchestra and All Catholic Orchestra (an audition-only orchestra) and was principal second violinist in Penn Youths Orchestra. Last year, as a member of Villa Maria’s String Ensemble, she was part of a group that won its section and was awarded Superior level. Slifer and her duet partner, harpist Millena Chirillo, earned an award in the Grand Prix level at the Music-Fest Rising Talents Festival, and they performed at Columbia University May 11. Slifer swims for Villa Maria Academy and the Malvern Swimming Association team, and teaches swimming for the Malvern Prep Swim School.

Villa Maria Academy's Anna Rago is Main Line Student of the Week - Oct. 7, 2018 To read the article on Anna Rago click here The Villa Maria Academy junior received Outstanding Achievement Awards in both science and math (algebra) and was recently nominated for the Liberty Museum and TD Bank’s Young Heroes Award. In college, she wants to study urban planning and nonprofit management with a focus on international urban planning and has taken an online class with a college in Singapore called Future Cities. Last summer, she traveled to Malawi, Africa (the third-poorest country in the world), for 18 days to work with Pamoza International, whose mission is to unite people in alleviating suffering and despair through Christian outreach and sustainable community development in the areas of education, entrepreneurship, agriculture and health. Rago has organized several fundraisers at Villa Maria for Pamoza International.

 Agnes Irwin's Caroline "Cookie" Quirk is Main Line Student of the Week (Nov. 6-12) To read the article on Cookie Quirk click here     A senior at Agnes Irwin School, Caroline “Cookie” Quirk is a National Merit Commended Scholar, and recently published an article in the Princeton Legal Journal titled “The High Stakes of Deepfakes: The Growing Necessity of Federal Legislation to Regulate this Rapidly Evolving Technology.” Quirk also serves on the school’s Discipline Committee, is a Student Tour Guide, and serves as a co-head of Mathletes as well as the Debate Club and the STEM Club. She is a writing center tutor, a member of Honor Council, and Digital Editor of the Wick, the school newspaper. She plays for Agnes Irwin’s squash team in the winter and rows crew in the spring.
